Proven Work in Regulated Care Environments

Care home case studies tell you more about a heating contractor than any accreditation list. They show how an engineer responds when both boilers fail without warning. They show whether a six-day system upgrade in a live care environment runs without incident. And they show what a 20-year maintenance relationship looks like in practice.

In a care home, a slow response or an engineer unfamiliar with pressurised commercial systems can turn a two-hour fix into a two-day disruption, and the consequences for residents are immediate. What matters is evidence.

Asbury has been working with care home operators across the south of England since 1962, holding Gas Safe Commercial and OFTEC registration, SafeContractor approval, and F-Gas qualification. The care home case studies documented here cover emergency repairs, full system upgrades, and long-term compliance partnerships. Each was completed in a regulated care setting by experienced professionals.

    Why Care Homes Trust Asbury

24/7 Emergency Response with Human Contact

Registered contract clients have direct access to Asbury’s 24/7 emergency call-out service. Every call is answered by a qualified member of the team — not a switchboard or automated system — so the right decision gets made from the first moment.

    Sixty Years in Regulated Environments

Asbury has been working with a range of industries across the south of England since 1962. That experience covers single-site homes and multi-home groups. The operational constraints of a regulated care environment — resident welfare, inspection schedules, 24-hour operation — are understood as a baseline, not learned on the job.

    Compliance Built into Every Visit

Every project Asbury carries out in a care environment is approached with compliance requirements as the starting point. Gas Safe certification, TMV servicing, Legionella risk management, and carbon monoxide monitoring are core deliverables on every job, not add-ons requested afterwards.

    Registered Qualifications Across Every Discipline

Gas Safe Commercial and OFTEC registration, SafeContractor approval, and F-Gas qualification mean that every piece of work carried out on site can be verified against recognised frameworks. For care home procurement teams and governance leads, that documentation is available as standard.

    Clear Updates & Written Recommendations

Facilities managers and operations directors receive direct updates from the attending engineer or the Asbury office team after every visit. Where further works are required, recommendations are provided in plain language with written follow-up, so nothing is left to memory or interpretation.

    Our Case Studies

    Client: Colten Care

    Location: Castle View, Dorchester

    Industry: Care Home

Castle View operates two Dorchester DR-FC boilers and two Quinta Remelia boilers. When one DR-FC EVO unit developed a fault and displayed an error code, the site lost 50% of its hot water capacity. With residents depending on consistent hot water for care and hygiene, restoring output quickly was the only acceptable outcome.

An Asbury engineer promptly attended, performed a resistance check on the Hot Surface Ignitor, and identified the faulty component during the visit. All gas and electrical isolations were completed before work began. The replacement part was sourced, delivered, and fitted the same day. The project also prompted a review of Asbury’s van stock policy, with common spare parts now carried for systems regularly serviced at care home sites.

    Results:

    • The boiler was repaired and restored to full working order within two hours of arrival.
    • Full hot water capacity was reinstated with minimal disruption to residents and staff.
    • Van stock policy updated to reduce parts wait times on future care home call-outs.

    Location: Winchester, Hampshire

    Industry: Care Home

A care home in Winchester required a complete replacement of its hot water system. Two domestic water heaters and a separate laundry unit were removed and replaced with Hamworthy DR-SC models, selected for their improved efficiency and reliability.

Maintaining a constant hot water supply throughout a six-day installation in a live care environment was the primary challenge. Asbury replaced one cylinder at a time, pre-fabricated pipework off-site, and used HIAB lifting equipment to remove the old units from the basement. The facilities manager confirmed no impact on residents throughout. The sequenced approach developed here is now applied as standard on comparable installations.

    Results:

    • Reliable performance across domestic and laundry facilities was confirmed from day one.
    • Reduced gas consumption and lower operating costs were achieved post-installation.
    • Six-day installation completed in a live care environment with no resident disruption.

    Location: Romsey, Hampshire

    Industry: Care Home

A care home in Romsey lost all heating and hot water when both boilers shut down simultaneously. Low system pressure was the cause. The pressurisation unit had seized, and no external filling loop was present, making restoration under standard conditions difficult.

Asbury’s engineer installed a temporary external filling loop on site, re-pressurised the system to 1.2 bar, and confirmed both boilers were firing before leaving. The care home also received written guidance on replacing the seized pressurisation unit to prevent recurrence.

    Results:

    • Heating and hot water were fully restored within 1.5 hours of the engineer arriving on site.
    • A temporary external filling loop was installed to support ongoing pressure management.
    • Written recommendations were provided for permanent remedial works to prevent future failure.

    Supporting Multi-Site Care Home Operators

Before CareGuard™, care home operators managing heating and compliance across multiple sites were doing so reactively. They would have to coordinate separate contractors, chase documentation, and respond to faults without a structured picture of asset condition or upcoming expenditure. Yes, individual call-outs got resolved, but the underlying gaps remained.

CareGuard by Asbury formalises service delivery for operators who want planned preventive maintenance, coordinated compliance activity, and defined emergency response within a single, structured programme. For providers managing heating for care homes across multiple sites, the Platinum tier supports portfolio-level reporting and consolidated service management.
