Pub, West Parley – Gas Leak
Background
The team at a pub in West Parley reported a strong smell of gas on the premises, raising immediate safety concerns. As a busy hospitality venue, any disruption to the gas supply could have a serious impact on kitchen operations and customer service.
Existing Setup
The site was operating with a commercial U40 gas meter. Initial investigations had already been carried out by Southern Gas Networks (SGN), who had traced the gas leak to the area around the meter.

Scope of Work
Asbury Heating was called in to further investigate and resolve the issue. Our engineer carried out a full tightness test and traced the leak to the anaconda on the outlet side of the meter. In accordance with gas safety regulations, the anaconda was removed and replaced with solid, fixed pipework to eliminate the leak.
Challenges and Solutions
The main challenge was restoring the gas supply safely without further disruption to the restaurant. With the leak source confirmed and removed, the engineer sourced the correct fittings and remade the outlet pipework. A further tightness test was carried out to confirm that no gas drop was present, allowing for the safe reestablishment of the gas supply.
Outcome
- The kitchen was back in operation within two hours.
- The gas meter setup was brought up to current standards.
- The restaurant was able to resume business without further interruption.
Safety and Compliance
All work was carried out in line with current gas safety regulations, ensuring full compliance and peace of mind for the client.
