Emergency Heating & Hot Water Restoration
Location: Romsey, Hampshire
Industry: Care Home
Background
Asbury Heating was called out to a care home in Romsey that had completely lost its heating and hot water. With vulnerable residents relying on consistent temperatures and warm water for care and hygiene, resolving the issue quickly was of the utmost importance.
Upon inspection, both of the property’s boilers were non-operational, and their display screens were completely blank. The care home’s system was a pressurised setup with a pressurisation unit and pressure switch, but no external filling loop was present – a vital component for recharging the system. The pressurisation unit itself had seized, further complicating the issue.
Our Solution
Our engineer conducted a full assessment of the system and confirmed that the boilers had shut down due to low system pressure. With the pressure unit out of operation and no external filling loop in place, topping up the system presented a challenge.
To overcome this, we:
- Installed a new external filling loop as a temporary solution to restore system pressure
- Re-pressurised the system to 1.2 bar, enabling the boilers to restart
- Tested both boilers, confirmed they fired up successfully and that heating and hot water were fully restored
We also advised the customer that the seized pressurisation unit would need replacing to prevent future breakdowns and ensure ongoing system reliability.
Challenges Overcome
- No external filling loop available for re-pressurisation
- The existing pressurisation unit was seized and not functional
- Immediate heating and hot water were required for the wellbeing of care home residents
Despite these complications, the Asbury team responded promptly and professionally, restoring essential services within 1.5 hours of arrival.

Outcome
The care home was left with a fully operational heating and hot water system. A new external filling loop was fitted, providing a short-term workaround and enabling ongoing top-ups if needed. The customer was satisfied with the outcome and grateful for the fast response and clear recommendations for further upgrades.
“We were extremely grateful for the swift and professional service provided. Heating and hot water were restored quickly, and we now have a clearer picture of what’s needed to improve the system going forward.”
